Salary Structure Types

Structure types are used to group individuals who share the same payroll rules. Each structure type includes specific options and a set of structures that are applied depending on the particular circumstances.


How to Create a Structure Type


In the Payroll app > go to Configuration > Structure Types


By default, the "Panama Employee Template" structure type is included with the payroll package and is pre-configured based on the country's payroll laws.


If new structure types are needed, click on the  button to create a new structure type, or open the default "Panama Employee Template" and click the gear icon > Duplicate.

  • Default Scheduled Pay: The default pay schedule for Panama payroll is set to Bi-weekly.
  • Default Working Hours

Panama Localized Fields


  • Invoice Payment Scope: For employees who are also customers, outstanding invoices can be directly deducted from their payslips. Select the preferred Invoice Payment Scope from the dropdown: "All Unpaid" or "Overdue Only".
  • Unpaid Deduction Basis: Choose the basis for calculating unpaid absences from the dropdown.
      • Working Days: Working days set in the employee's configuration (business days, excluding weekends and holidays).
      • Natural Days: All calendar days, including weekends and holidays.
      • Fixed Days: The "Working Days in a Year" value set within the same structure type.
  • Days in a Year: By default, this is set to 360 days in Panama.
  • Working Days in a Year: Typically set to 360 days for Panama.
  • Tax Table: Set to "Panama Income Tax", which applies the tax table based on Panama's tax rates.



Payroll Period Calendar


The Generate Period button is an optional feature designed to streamline the payroll process by providing predefined dropdown options for selecting the payroll schedule when processing payslips. This feature enhances efficiency and reduces the likelihood of errors by automating the selection of payroll periods.


To generate the payroll period calendar, set the Start Day and Start Month then click the "Generate Period". button:


It is recommended to delete the previous payroll period and generate a new payroll period at the start of the fiscal year. This ensures the system remains organized, avoids any overlapping periods, and maintains accurate payroll records for the new fiscal year.


Panama Configuration


Set the relevant Professional Risk (Riesgo Profesional) percentage rate for the structure type. This rate varies depending on the economic activity of the company, so it is crucial to ensure that this field is kept up to date in order to comply with the corresponding contributions to the Social Security Fund (Caja de Seguro Social).

The Panama Payroll Package comes with two pre-configured Salary Rules:


  • 13er Mes (PA)
  • Sample Structure PA Template



If additional salary structures are needed, follow these steps:


  1. Open one of the pre-configured Salary Rules.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Select Duplicate to create a new salary structure based on the template.



This allows you to easily create and customize additional salary structures as required.
